Race Report – Duluth Snocross – Sprit Mountain

Duluth, MB (November 30, 2015)

The kick off to the 2015-2016 ISOC National Snocross series has come and gone. The 24thAnnual Amsoil Duluth National Snocross C. J. Ramstad Memorial Cup, was held this past weekend in Duluth, MN. The warmer than usual weather brought out record breaking crowds, and made for a great event! The support we had from friends and family is amazing. We are always humbled when people give up their time to come watch us do what we love!

Cottew Motorsports is one of the local teams that participates in the event, fielding riders in both the sport and pro-lite classes. #239 Mitchell Thelen is a rookie to the sport class and will be competing for the team on the ISOC National tour. Back this year is #436 Travis Muller, competing in the pro-lite class. Also joining the team, #14 James Johnstad, competing in the pro-lite class. Moving up for his rookie year in pro-lite is #21 Cole Cottew. Four racers on a team will not give us any dull moments!

Mitchell Thelen was able to make the finals on both Friday and Saturday. Running 3rd in the sport final on Friday night until a last lap tangle left Mitchell to finish 13th. On Saturday Mitchell was running well again trying to get the 3rd spot but was not quite able to do it, finishing 14th. While the results may not show it, Mitchell had an excellent weekend making both finals and running hard. We can’t wait to see what Fargo brings for him!

Pro Lite brought lots of excitement for Cottew Motorsports. All three riders made the front row for the final on Saturday night! The racers looked so sharp in their FXR gear! With three of them on the track at once, it was impossible not to see that gear! Travis Muller ran a solid race and brought home a 4th place finish! James Johnstad was running 7th until an off occurred and finished 14th. Cole Cottew charged in 3rd for over half the race, until an off caused him to finish 15th. On Sunday, it was Travis Muller and James Johnstad that made the final for Cottew Motorsports. Cole Cottew had some mechanical issues, causing him not to make the show. Travis was able to bring home a 3rd place podium finish, and James finished a solid 7th place finish. Getting on the box in Duluth was a first for Cottew Motorsports! What an exciting moment for Travis, the mechanics, and the entire team!

Team owner Jeff Cottew left Duluth feeling excited for the upcoming race in Fargo. He told us he is proud of the hard work these boys have been putting in, and while we have some things to work on, he couldn’t be happier with the efforts of the mechanics and racers.
