MT. PLEASANT, MI | Soaring Eagle Snocross National
February 24-25, 2017 – Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort
After our three week break, we were all ready to get back at it this past weekend in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan at the Soaring Eagle Resort & Casino.
Since we always talk about the weather in each weekend’s recap, I might as well fill you in on the latest elements mother nature decided to toss at us. First off, let me say how impressive it was that ISOC pulled off this event considering the conditions—amazing job! The temps were in the 50’s and 60’s the entire week prior to the event. But ISOC still managed to have a good, rideable track.
On Friday, we were still racing in about 50 degree weather… and then the monsoon started. On and off pouring rain and thunderstorms all day long. From a photographer’s perspective, I think I would have been better off trying to maneuver around the track in my kayak than on foot.
Thankfully the temperature dropped on Saturday and instead of racing in rain, we were racing in snow.
On Friday, FXR swept the Sport Lite podium with Beau Tibbetts #223 in 3rd, Eric Downs #129 in 2nd, and Carson Alread #631 in 1st.
Our Snowbikers were really rippin’ this weekend. Austen Madison #410 got his first 1st over the weekend, and Cody Thomsen #62 followed him taking 2nd.
Kaden Woodie #980 scored his first podium finish of the season with a 2nd place in his Sport final. Jake Geeseman #139 also made another podium, finishing in 3rd.
Our favorite girl in pigtails and pink, Malene Andersen #93 finished 2nd in the Pro Am Women final Friday night.
Jolene Van Vugt #63, or better known as “Nitro Girl,” made her debut in Snocross over the weekend. Jolene will be back for more racing at the Grand Finale inLake Geneva in a couple of weeks.
Zak Mason #63 had the big win in the Pro Lite final on Friday night, and Aki Pihlaja #128 made his 10th podium appearance of the season, taking 3rd.
You would have never guessed that Kody Kamm #53 was coming off of a shoulder injury from a couple weeks ago judging by his performance Friday night—an outstanding 1st place to finish off the night!
On Saturday, Sophia Hulsey #800 scored a 2nd place in her JR Girls 9-13 final, and Taven Woodie #873 with another 1st.
FXR swept the Transition 8-10 podium with Ayden Zimmerman #178 in 3rd, Lawson Sterry #222 in 2nd, and Cameron Cole #747 in 1st.
Drew Freeland #821 had an awesome race, taking 2nd in his Transition 8-12, followed by Cameron Cole #747 in 3rd, making his first ever podium appearance in this class.
Eric Downs #129 with yet another 1st place podium finish in his JR 14-15 final.
Another familiar face was back on top of the JR 16-17 final—Carson Alread #631 with the win.
Jordan Brinkman #284 took the 2nd spot in the Sport Lite final, and Taylor Cole #741 took 1st.
Jake Geeseman #139 was back on the box for the second night in a row for his Sport final with another 3rd place.
Cameron Cole #747 made his third podium appearance of the weekend by taking the win in his 120 Champ final Saturday night.
Malene Andersen #93 was also back on the podium for the second night in a row, scoring another 2nd place finish in her Pro Am Women final.
